Miguel SalcidoOwing to its considerably high success rate in generating sales and income, social media marketing has been a fad in the last couple of years; and it’s amazing to see how women are hugely to thank for this achievement.

Not only are they stable and profitable targets for such marketing campaigns, they are also very effective, resourceful and creative in coming up with campaign strategies for social media. Their mere visibility and participation make them popular people to follow, thus putting social media domination easily in the hands of the daughters of Eve.

In a June 2011 study conducted by the Pew Research Center, a US-based independent “fact tank” that conducts researches and provides information on relevant trends and issues in the US and in the world, it was revealed that women do rule social media in participation alone. According to the study, women spend more time using social media networks such as Facebook and Twitter compared with men. They contribute more information and media files (such as photos, videos and articles), use social media in mobile more, and respond to social media marketing more.

In Facebook alone, women comment on their friends’ status updates and shared files more than men do, and also hit the “like” button more often. Unsatisfied with ruling over Facebook, women also dominate the use of e-mails, blogs, instant messages, and even photo sharing sites and mechanisms.

This enthusiasm for social media (and socialization), along with their sheer willingness to share information, their sensitivity to the needs of others, and their naturally approachable nature, all translate into an almost intrinsic charm that proves vital to social media marketing. Women create better relationships with clients, can better understand the needs of the market, and can come up with effective strategies that can engage more people in.

Here are three of the most remarkable power women in social media today:

Lisa Stone

She is the co-founder and CEO of BlogHer, a publishing network that allows women from all walks of life and ages to voice out their opinions and make themselves known through blogs, photos, videos and other forms of online media publicity. Through her works and initiatives, she has created endless opportunities for women who are looking for online exposure, economic empowerment, community networking and even education.  She was named as one of Fast Company’s 2010 100 Most Creative People in Business, having launched a number of blogging networks and interactive programming for various products and companies, including E! Television Online and Sex and the City (HBO). Her BlogHer network now has more than 2,500 blogs and still counting. She is also a BlogHer blogger.

Tara Hunt

As one of the pillars of the Fast Company Magazine, Tara Hunt can be considered as one of the most influential women in technology today. Her authority in the online community doesn’t just start and end in her blogging at the popular horse pig cow  blog; she is actually the CEO of Buyosphere.com and the author of The Whuffie Factor. With her extensive experience in online and community marketing, she has been a speaker in over a hundred events and has established herself as a true and credible specialist in web marketing.

Jill Foster

When it comes to distinguished names in online marketing, social media and new technology, Jill Foster’s is probably one of the most cited. She has been mentioned in articles by The Washington Post, Guardian UK, Huffington Post, Washingtonian Magazine, and other publications. Having co-founded DC Media Makers, a peer learning community that provides digital technology education, Jill has established influence and shared her expertise to other people in the trade. She is also a founder of LiveYourTalk, a member of the DC Web Women’s executive board, a social technology enthusiast, and a founding editor of WomenGrowBusiness.com, a marketing blog and social media site for women.

The idea of women as plain housekeepers has long gone down the drain. They now design rooms, make different types of house plans, and even engineer buildings and skyscrapers. Free-for-all education has opened a wide range of opportunities for people, especially women, to spread their wings and excel in almost every field, and social media marketing is no exception.
